Lord Howe Island - Types of Fish
Fish or no fish, Lord Howe Island is one of the most beautiful places
on Earth that you can visit. There is plenty to do to keep you busy for
weeks. Fortunately, anxious anglers can also find some great fishing
there and there are a wide variety of species; everything from pan fish
to Sailfish. The island holds over 400 species of fish.
If your thing is some fly fishing in rivers and estuaries, it’s there
for you. If you enjoy taking a canoe into a lagoon for some quiet
fishing, you can do it. If you are more of a deep water big game sport
fisherman and prefer the action of a Marlin, that’s available too.
Species of fish that are very abundant on Lord Howe Island include cod
black, drummer silver, bluefish, mullet sand, shark whaler, kingfish
yellowtail, trevally silver, tuna mackeral, tuna striped, tuna yellowfin,
wrasse doubleheader and wahoo.
Species that are not as abundant, but still very common are dart
swallowtail, emperor spangled, cod opal eye, jack almaco, jobfish rosy,
mahi mahi, blue, black and striped marlin, nannygai, rainbow runner,
sailfish, kahawai, sweep violet, and the trevally blue fin.
Still found on Lord Howe Island but not as common are barracuda, red
bass, bonefish, amberjack, dart snubnosed, emperor red, milkfish, mullet
sea, parrotfish blue barred, jobfish green, sea bream collared,
hammerhead, mako, and tiger shark, spearfish, sweetlip, trevala blue
eye, trevally big eye, trevally black , whiting sand and snapper.
A good majority of these Lord Howe Island species are best found in the
summer through the early autumn.
Lord Howe Island is certainly a place you want to put on your agenda.
